We hear the day to day experiences that members are encountering. Every election…every slate promises better representation without explaining exactly how that will look or the specifics on how that will take place. We have… 1. Accountability Committee- assembling a review process of making sure that all stewards, agents, and committee’s charged with representation activities are held accountable for performance, presence, shop and grievance activity.2. Member Empowerment Committee’s (M.E.C.’s)- The M.E.C.’s are self- governed, in-house committees comprised of a coalition of rank and file members working side by side with stewards who meet regularly and include communications across all shifts and jobs promoting education, information, mentoring, support all while collecting and prioritizing information on issues and grievances to advance resolutions. Business Agent's will make it their priority to communicate with the MEC's thereby empowering the member’s voice and encouraging a more active and productive role in their union. The M.E.C.’s will report regularly to the Accountability Committee for oversight. 3. Advanced Education and Training- Implementing a training department that provides interactive and thorough (in person and virtual) union orientation, education, mentoring, organizing, contractual understanding and advancement classes.4. Labor, Law and Life- Education and Informational resources and assistance for those areas of life that the contract may not address or include directly even though many of our members may encounter these situations due to finances, injury, legal, medical or family related occurrences. Where our union cannot help…we should educate.5. Building Bridges- Building better relationships within our local and sister locals, caucuses and commissions. The average rank and file member is rarely informed or extended the opportunity to experience or participate in the many events offered because historically our executives and their spouses take full advantage of such opportunities. We believe that educating our membership via trainings and experience is one of the strongest ways to promote and inspire participation and future leaders.
